Good morning.

I'm 59 years old, married with 2 15 year old kids. I've always liked the z3 and with the kids wanting to use my pickup, I'm looking to buy a fun car for me!
I would like the 6 cylinder with a manual transmission. There are so many options to muddle through. I keep hearing and seeing manydifferent issues. Cooling, locks, manual v power tops, traction control etc. I don't want to make a big mistake and am looking for some advice from people who have experience with z3s.

Thx, Ron

Welcome to the forum.
Z3's are most over 20 years old so some issues are bound to occur generally very easy to work on and parts readily available

Hi Tony, welcome from me near Lincoln UK. As Paul said these cars are all around the 20 years old mark so will likely either have had or will have any or all the problems you quoted. Unlucky to encounter all problems but no matter as there's not likely any problem left which hasn't been covered on here somewhere. Buy the best example you can afford safe in the knowledge that this forum will be there should you need help.

Tony.

Hi. If your in the U.S. you have a different engine range to us here. We get in 6 cylinder guise a 2.0, 2.2, 2.8 and 3.0. I understand you get a 2.3, 2.5 and 3.0. My personal advice would be to go for the 3.0. It's a fantastic engine and powerful enough for most. Non power roofs I'm sure were only on the 4 cylinder 1.9

The 2.3 and 2.5 are the same block, the 2.3 has a smaller inlet manifold I believe

Hi @Ron Butler, :welcome: to the forum from me too in Staffordshire. All great advice above, I would add to drive as many different ones until you find one in great condition you like. Don't get too hung up on mileage, my 2.2 has done over 190,000 miles;)
