I have just discovered that when the wipers are on [say medium] and you come to a stop that the wipers will also drop down to slow, and then resume when you get back to moving along.

Never heard or read/heard of this anywhere before. What a pleasant surprise.

My tractor does that but I haven noticed it on my Z. I shall be more observant, how's that for a New Year Resolution?:)

Yes we have speed sensitive wipers, funny how a lot of people don't notice, probably tells the story to how many zed owners are fair weather drivers only, and who can blame them!

Us old b***ers thought they'd always been like that, or don't they work off vacuum anymore?=))

Can't remember which of my early cars, possibly `53 Minx, but if you stopped at traffic lights in the rain you had to rev hard to see lights change to green! Happy Days.

Fords had vacuum wipers - they stopped under full throttle, and went ape on idle. Vauxhalls (Cresta at least) in the sixties had engine driven wipers that went faster in direct proportion to engine revs. My first car was a Series 'M' Morris Ten and you could operate the driver's wiper on its own if you wanted to.

Happy memories of vacuum wipers etc. I bought a Ford 8 in 1961,stripped it down to the chassis which I had welded along the open side to form a box chassis.Took the front beam axle, had it cut in half fitted with coil springs to make an independent front suspension unit. Fitted an Ashley fibreglass body, bought smaller wheels etc.etc.
It was a terrible car but taught me a heck of a lot about cars.
I kept the vacuum wipers for nostalgia.
I sold the car for about half of the cost and bought a Ford Anglia 105E. This showed me how much design and development really goes into a production car.

Apologies @Cooper for starting the vacuum theme - that's your thread well and truly hijacked - Merry Christmas.

I have a 29 chev body sitting out back with a manually activated wiper, yes, one wiper that you operate by a hand knob. No vacuum!! JIM
