A few quotes I have done so far are unbelievable. 50 yr old one single vehicle claim under £2000. Car wrapped with stainless tail pipe. 11yrs ncd on another car. Under 3000 miles p/a . Locked garage.
Looking at £600+
Not sure what is going on last year was under £200 lol. I would sell car before paying £600 insurance PA.

Have you tried Saga? They gave me full no claims discount on my zed when I told them it was a second car and that I had full ncd with another company. This was 4yrs ago and I'm still with them for both my zeds.

Was just having a giggle at the thought of old bloke car insurance. Till I realised at 51 I'm now an old bloke too - by Saga criteria!

Suggest you also try Footman James.

I’ve refrained from using saga for that very reason for several years now - I’ll decide when I’m old thank you very much..

a)How much did you say your car is worth? They’ll sting you for a high value, but unless it’s AGREED value the shisters will only pay what they deem to be market value if you have a claim
b) having a female as a named driver reduces your premium (even if they never drive it)
c) having too low an annual mileage can actually increase your premium! I was told this was because it’s ‘unusual’ and therefore doesn’t feature on their cost curves. Anything out of the usual is another excuse for them to sting you.

I’ve found Adrian Flux pretty good- they understand old/unusua/ modded, and do agreed value insurance if you want it. Also no price increase on renewal...

I use Adrian Flux. I don't have any accidents, but I've declared a lot of mods (much more than you have) on an M on a driveway and have guaranteed value insurance at £400.

I would definitely use the phone to speak to someone at a brokers. Comparison sites and the "normal" insurers are great for standard cars, but anything modified needs a human being to make the decisions.

I will give Adrian flux or Carole Nash a call. My car is not being used until spring time so I will sort it out then.I only put value at £2.5K as 1.9 are not really making much money.

When I first bought my zed I was with Aviva and spoke to one of their customer reps who mirrored my full ncd on to the zed as I was the only named driver on both policies, zed was a 1.9 140bhp no mods about £120 , retained the ncd on renewal

General advice is to use a classic car insurance company. Main stream insurers equate modifications with boy racer. The classic car guys get it.

£154 for me including breakdown cover with very similar mods. Mileage is important though. If the car is a “weekend car” and garaged with 3000 miles a year it is very different to 20,000 and kept on the street.

I used Grove and Dean.

I like most people have found you have to shop around as the prices are very erratic.

Try using the online comparison sites so you can change the parameters and see how the costs go up or down. This will give you an idea what will save you money. I was surprised that adding my girlfriend as a named driver dropped the price substantially.

Last year my truck insurance went up substantially when I moved a few miles down the road. I spent an hour and a half on the phone with the company rep trying anything to bring the price down. They managed to drop it about 10 pounds. Went online through a comparison site and the same company came up at half the price. Signed up online and never had a problem.

That’s an incredible price for agreed value cover AND Euro breakdown! Most insurers won’t do Euro breakdown cover for vehicles over 21 yrs old (even Adrian Flux) I had to get separate Euro breakdown cover from RAC for a 1 week trip. Very expensive as had to pay a premium to avoid their ‘market value only’ recovery. Ie if they deem the car is worth only £2k and recovery costs are £2.1k they won’t bring your car back. Car transporter & ferry costs can easily exceed that.

Sean - Have you been with Classic Line for a while, and have they maintained their low price on renewal?

I pay about £240 on my 1.9 for limited 5k with AiB. Not the cheapest but I have another car with them and combined it's not a bad deal.
So many variables with insurance not least where you live. I have a Manchester postcode which does suffer.

I did get a quote below £200 with somebody else, forget who.

Its my first year with them but they came highly reccommended from another forum member, he had agreed value and when he wrote his Z off they paid out immediately

I’m now with Classicline too thanks the comments here. Simple to deal with an AGREED value - all mods declared (I have a long detailed list).
