INPA Readings on MAF sensor?

Hi guys, reference the picture below. The air consumption is 0 with the car idling? its a 2.2 Z3.

I'm pretty sure there should be a value there. Is this indicative of a bad MAF sensor? I'm trying to diagnose some weird symptoms I have. When driving, I have excessive smoke coming out of the exhaust. My CCV is shot anyway so I'm replacing that, as well as throttle body gasket, intake boots, DISA O-ring. I have just replaced all the VANOS seals and the Rocker cover gasket. This issue only started when the rocker cover and VANOS seals were replaced though. I accidentally snapped the breather pipe taking the rocker cover off so that's why I'm replacing the whole CCV.

Now I know white smoke out of the exhaust is usually a HG fail, but it doesn't smell of burning coolant. And like I said it was running fine beforehand. I have 4 brand new Lambda sensors to fit too as I'm not sure when they were replaced and I'd rather fit new ones now and get it over and done with.

Any help would be appreciated.

This should have a value even with the engine not running. Must be faulty.
can you locate your “smooth running values” in the computer? These will give a hint if the car is in “closed loop”.

Im having an issue with my INPA and it doesn't seem to like some pages in the program. I can read fault codes and some of the live values, but when i look at the lambda page and fuel trim for example it will just error and stop post scripting. I havn't gotten round to reinstalling it yet.

How do i know if its in a closed loop? also if i unplug the MAF, that value show up in the 700s with a '?' next to it. Which im guessing is the standard fail value which is confusing me more

I am also getting a misfire on cylinder 4. I have swapped around the coil packs but its still on 4. I'm hoping this is all related.

That is why I am asking about smooth running values. Please try to reach that menu.

So as you can see I have 2 cylinders playing up. Interestingly I have just driven the car about with the MAF sensor unplugged and there was no smoke. When I replaced the DCV there was oil all around n the intake as it had failed. I did clean up a lot of it so I’m wondering if it was just burning what was left. This misfire is annoying me now

I presume these values are with a warm engine and in idle. Try replacing the coils from 4 to 1 etc and have a look again.
You are not any more in closed loop.

Hi mate, thanks for the help. Just thought I’d give you a heads up that I’ve fixed it. The car eventually threw an inlet camshaft sensor fault. I have replaced it and it’s all running perfectly fine now. MAF readings are still a bit off but I do t know how much to trust INPA at the minute.
Thank you for your help, I can enjoy my car now!

Excellent news! Enjoy it and dont bother with minor issues. They spoil the fun.
