Opposite end of the county Geoff, Templecombe near Wincanton. The company I work for does work at Hoburne Blue Anchor from time to time but I am office based so I don’t get to go there!
Thanks Mike. I have a random alarm activation fault and have tried all the usual suggestions to fix it without success so I am looking at INPA as a way to try to pin down the fault and this come up with a proper fix. I will be very interested in your experiences using it!

Mine is a 1.9 M43TU(B19) engine and I have been able to access that OK using the BMS46 engine option in INPA
It's the "body" sub-menu items I'm struggling to access.
Is there any way to get INPA to list all the modules installed in the car?

Another piece of the jigsaw .....
Today I found the function in INPA for listing all the control modules - it's hidden away in Shift-F9 Special Tests
INPA reports the following modules :
● 6901502 KOMBI36C - Instrument Cluster
● 1430940 BMS46Ds1 - Engine Control Unit
● 8386192 MRS3 - Airbag Control Unit
● 6751767 ASCMK20 - Automatic Stability Control
● 1438022 TOENS_2 - Oil Temperature & Level
● 4101593 EWS3D - Electronic Vehicle Immobiliser
But NO ZKE4 !!!
Looking at the wiring diagrams I would have also expected to see ABS, Central Locking, Power Windows, Wash/Wipe, On-Board Computer and Remote Control?
Does this looks like I may be picking up one bus but not the other?
I definitely have pins 7 & 8 shorted on the 16 pin adaptor and the pin-out on my 16 pin to 20 pin adaptor looks OK
Any suggestions?

The general module 4 (ZKE4) controls a lot of systems such as door locks, alarm, windows etc
Below are the wiring diagrams for your car. Drawing 0675.5-05 shows the modules that are in your car. You are picking up modules on both busses OK, so I don't know why you are not getting the ZKE4.

Hi Tony you are only one and a haf hours drive away and under 60 miles, in the past I popped down to Castle Carey when I had a TR4.
I have INPA on my Laptop but on there by one of my nephews who is a BMW man and looks after any problems remotely as lives in Surrey but his compant is in Noefolk. If ytou know how to work INPA I could pop over as and when, I dont work as been retired 15years for you to find out your problem. Geoff
Geoff that is a very kind offer and one I would like to take up, thank you. I have not used INPA, I don’t have a laptop that it would run on so the use of yours for an hour or two one day would be great. You’re a Triumph man as well then (or used to be?), I still have my TR7 but fortunately electrical problems on that are relatively easy to diagnose! Anyway I will message you to continue the conversation rather than sidetrack this thread.

Looking at the wiring diagrams for the M43 it looks like the ZKE, on-board computer and remote control (highlighted yellow on attached sheet) are all on the RXD (L) bus connected to pin 15 and on the TXD (K) bus connected to pin 20?
I have highlighted in green the modules I am currently able to see and these all appear on the TXD (K) bus connected to pin 20 (drawing doesn't show the Engine Control Unit?)
I have had a look at the back side of the 20 pin connector in the engine bay and the rubber boot is in good condition and the back of the terminals are all clean and free from any signs of corrosion.
I have also belled out the pins on the 16 to 20 pin adaptor and they match the drawing.
I set out down the INPA path trying to sort out a problem with my alarm but I appear to have a bigger issue !

The only thing that comes to mind is a bad connection at the 20 pin connector. Try some electrical contact spray and working it in with the adaptor.

He says "On your car, the ABS, ZKE, and the OBC are ADS only (L-line, denoted by RX/TX on the wiring diagrams) communication protocol. The K+DCAN will not talk to those as it doesn't have the old L-line".
I seem to recall you saying you can access the ZKE on your 2000 year Z3?

ADS or OBD1 is on cars with a build date before 03/98. After 03/98 all Z3 modules are OBD2, so the version of INPA you have can connect to those modules.
I had a 2.0L 2000 Z3 and used INPA to diagnose the alarm issues I was having with the ZKE4, so it works.
Currently having problems with my INPA laptop, so can't check with my 2000 3.0L Z3.
