Had a couple of hours spare this morning so it was play time, I made the template last week, so got it cut out and shaped, just need to paint it and add edging, I did it in one peice so it only has 2 rivets holdin it together, it was cut from an old piece of ally sheet that I had knocking about

Top job mate. As an aside, nice to see a propper tea mug, just as it should be.

Black absorbs heat. You'd be better leaving it as it is.

That looks a really good job .

I've noticed that it takes longer to heat my engine. Let me know if you have the same.

Good point, I might just paint the inside so it looks better finished, I am going to use sound deadning pads that I am hoping will absorb some of the heat, seems strange that the car takes longer to warm up

I did some temperature readings on mine and the difference between the inside and outside was considerable. Using rubber "bobbins" on the stay bars insulated it from heat transfer via conduction.

Thanks very much Sean, I have already stared on a template similar to yours, just haven't got around to finishing it. Your photos will help me get it done.

Hi Sean
I would like the template if you still have it..
Don't be so lazy! I may still have the one I used but that will cost you.

Looks great @Sean d, well done on making it all as one piece I used two for mine it looks pretty similar. I have sprayed mine black though, it looks much more original in the engine bay.
