Dr Fonseca suspects that the spread of the disease was fuelled by the football World Cup in 2014. Will the Brazil Olympics hasten it further, to California, to southern Europe? He said: "It's going to go to California. With the Olympics it will go a little faster."

Dr Marco Fonseca is a neuro-surgeon in Cucuta. "It looks like the virus changed in some way," he told me. "I'm afraid there is some change in the genome. This is Zika-plus. A mutation."

Agreed @FRANKIE , South America and indeed further afield needs the Olympics like it needs a hole in the head with regarde to the potential spread. Still, on the upside I live in the middle of nowhere.

I think we're safe Mike, it's far too cold here for those mosquitoes. You'll have to find another excuse to move up to Frankie's.

You've probably got more chance of getting robbed and killed for your holiday money when abroad, but having said that the mosquito is known to have killed more people than any other thing known to man including all the casualties in all the known wars around the world, that's some reputation. If your not sure of the facts look it up.
Biggest killer known to mankind, can't remember where I read it but it made me sit up and think at the time.
So should we be worried, well we should've already been worried. No ???????????

In the Middle ages some Fenmen were recorded as having an illness called "The Ague" recent studies concluded that this was Malaria transmitted by Mosquitoes. The Mosquitoes have not gone away in the fens, every summer we kill some.

Mozzies are becoming more and more common. Outside in the back yard at work there are always scrap tyres which stand around for weeks before being taken for recycling, these have stagnant water in them and are a breeding ground for mozzies. I have said at work if they put some salt in them the little flying pests would lay their eggs elsewhere. Unsurprising to me it turns out that this is another thing which originated in Africa, but why ?

All that money trying to find something in space when we got the mosquito flying round the world free as a bird, something tells me we may have got it all wrong.

They carry out Mozza spraying on a huge industrial scale in the southern States Roy. Usually notice is given and it happens when there's very little chance of a breeze for obvious reasons. They did this when building the Panama Canal and even when building Disney World too.

Seems to me Tony that they should've been studying this little creature to see how they could make it less harmful instead of wasting money on the space race and nuclear weapons, were too complacent in this country owing to the lack of mosquitos in very large numbers but when you think of the scale of death their responsible for its actually quite frightening for the countries that have them in quantity.

yes it's a worry... But more concerning is... The suns out.. But the roads are wet... Do I take the zed out ... Hmmmm thought about it... Out we go...

And if you have stagnant water about.. Add a drop of washing up liquid.. It breaks the surface tension and the little buggers soon die off.
