It is the earth point for Jump starting, the positive is in the little box with a lid just behind it.

As an aside, your strut mount does not look too flash with the split around the inside edge.

If its protruding above the strut tower like the one in the below photo, then your strut mount is failing and should be replaced.

A Stitch in time saves nine.

Imagine the cost of replacing the bonnet/hood if the strut mount fails and bents it.

If that strut top mounting was in that condition at the last MOT test it really should've carried at least an advisory.

I would imagine it was like that back in April when it had its MOT.
No advisory.

As an aside, your strut mount does not look too flash with the split around the inside edge.

This looks better. 4 new Sachs and two strut mounts
