The ABS unit is throwing codes and the ASC and ABS lights come and go on my Mora 2.0L Z3. Its been doing it for a year now, comes and goes at random with a mix of left rear sensor (sensor is good) and pump fault codes. Finally decided to fix it. A secondhand ABS unit is on its way and coding instructions have been found.

But how do you get to the ABS unit on a 6 cylinder Z3?

Possibilities are:
- remove radiator header tank
- remove inlet manifold
- squeeze up from below

How have others done it?

Never tried to actually replace the whole pump dependant on the unit its quite often the module that goes not the pump mine was held on by 4 torx screws and just its electrical connection. I swapped the module for the same reason, it always gave errors on the left front and the pump. Turned out the pump error was due to power loss from the module because of the nitourious bad solder joint.
The new part i sourced off an E46 part numbers the same the light went out striaght away but it does not function unless coded just puts out the lights.

Same as above with my sons 2.8. Just changed the module, re-coded and lights go out. No problems for over a year now and it is used as an everyday driver. Just took about 5 mins to change module.

To close off this thread. The new ABS module arrived today and I managed to replace the electronic module by removing the DISA valve for more room. Coded the new module to the car with NCSexpert and all warning lights have gone away.

Thank you for your helpful advice.

Maybe things are a little different on an M52. But on M54s I’ve done this job several times without removing the DISA.
