How do I know what battery I have?

Hi all just need a bit of help if anyone can, I’m putting my car away on smart charge but not sure if the battery is a AGM battery.
How would I know without taking it out?
nothing that says anything on the top.

The E89 was fitted with either a 70ah or 80ah AGM battery..on the original battery the date code is stamped on top of a terminal…

What may have been fitted since then…?

Only be removing it and seeing any markings on the side.

Of course it has to be an AGM for proper functions /long life ..

PS that does not look like an OE battery

I know nothing about batteries but are AGM batteries lead acid too? It’s just the charger has option of I have a AGM battery for charging and not sure to use it.

Looks like I’ll have to take it out and check, I think if it was OE it would have info on top with info. Cheers

Yup…an AGM is a form ..arguably the highest form of a lead acid battery…sadly for cost or other reasons increasing number of e89s been fitted with the incorrect battery types..

It doesn’t say AGM on top of the original battery..but it does say BMW

In the first picture - are those screw down caps where you can top up the electrolyte? If they are then I don't think it can be AGM coz AGM is maintenance free and can't be topped up.
