In my introductory post, I mentioned that an loud rattle was emanating from just behind the seats. Just yesterday it became extremely loud with no tell-tale as what may have caused this new volume.
I visited my friend Jack's shop and put it up on the lift. As I was maneuvering the car towards the lift he heard the rattling and thought it might be a bad rear CV. This would have been more expensive that I could afford right now but once in the air, he quickly determined the culprit to be the propshaft center mount bearing.
Upon removal of the exhaust and the heat shielding, it became obvious that, while the bearing is fine, the bracket had broken away with the center support missing entirely.
Since Jack is an old school mechanic, he determined that he could easily fabricate a new bracket for me. In 10 minutes he had this for me and I was back on the road. (after putting it all back together again)
