I have swapped out the original steering wheel for a woodrim with no airbag.
Does anyone know which are the 2 wires on the slip ring that connect to the horn push?

Thanks

Sorry but in this case you are wrong.

My car is registered as a Tribute 250 California so there are no specs listed so the MOT tester can't check it.
If the car was registered as a Z3 you would have been correct.

Smug grin!

But if it still has the original identity plate the VIN will show that it has been type-approved as a Z3, with an air bag. I would have thought that the only way to get out of this situation would be to have the car subjected to the Single Vehicle Type Approval process. Perhaps it depends on the tester not realising that, regardless of the name in the V5, it remains a Z3 with fibreglass pieces added on.

I would be inclined to get a statement from VOSA to show to any policeman who may stop you, or for the odd VOSA roadside check.

Copied from the MOT Testers manual. Which is free on line to view , copy or Print.

0. Identification of the vehicle
Registration plate (number plate) and vehicle identification number rules and inspection for car and passenger vehicle MOT tests.

Show all sections
0.1. Registration plates,Showthis section
0.2. Vehicle identification number (VIN),Hidethis section

You must check the vehicle is displaying a legible vehicle identification number.
A vehicle identification number (VIN or chassis number) is required on:
  • kit cars and amateur built vehicles first used on or after 1 September 2001
  • all other vehicles first used on or after 1 August 1980
Vehicles may have the VIN displayed in more than one location, but only one VIN is required to be complete and legible.
Check that a vehicle does not have more than one VIN displayed, other than for multi-stage build vehicles. Multi-stage build vehicles can have 2 VINs, both of which may have the same last 8 digits.
When registering a multi-stage build vehicle for test, enter the last 6 digits of either VIN, along with the registration number. If the MOT testing service finds a match against either full VIN this should be accepted.
If you do not find a match in the MOT testing service, create a new vehicle record using the converter’s VIN. A converter’s serial number is not a VIN.

My VIN is present and unchanged, make on V5 is Tribute California. Dashboard changed and fitted with replica Veglia instruments that have no airbag light. Also fitted with early 1960's registration plate.

I also have a 1960's tax disc in the window showing make as "Fanny Magnet". It always amuses me when you get a knowledgeable car buff do a DVLA check on his phone to announce that it is genuine as it shows up on the database as "California"

My MOT tester wouldn't pass it as a BMW Z3 but jas no problem passing a "Tribute California".

It seems to be very odd - but good luck if officialdom gets interested!

Only person who could be in bother is the MOT Tester if he isn’t following the rules.
