Bloody hell !!!!!
Wonder what speed he was doing?
Looking at the cockpit the car fared well and seems to be intact. If both chugging along that's a potentially combined impact speed of at least 100mph.

Cabin looks substantially intact and passenger survived with non-life threatening injuries. Driver's airbag bag went off.

But where's the engine? Looks like it was a big old impact and got pushed back into the driver?

Purely speculation but many people die from what is termed as kinematics whereby the internal organs rupture from the impact in that they are still doing whatever the speed was and crash against the rib cage and main arteries rupture and/or detach. :(

Engine could of course been sat on what was his lap :(

Terrible carnage! Stops you in your tracks when thinking through how such an accident happens.

Curious what happened really. But I'm guessing the fire engine was turning right across the path of the BMW and spun it round. That filter looks like it's for oncoming traffic to turn right.

Horrific accident.
Know that junction well. Been through there thousands of times.
Just outside where I used to work which is right next to the fire station.

Cannot work out how the car and fire engine ended up where they did at any time of day never mind 5am. No visible damage on the fire engine - must be back, front or off-side. No easy way for them to end up where they did but for one of two potential possibiities.
It isn't a good conclusion. Will come out at coroners court.

That Z4 would have been better protected than a Z3, be careful out there.

I would love to be wrong but I don't think any amount of protection was going to help. An awful lot of energy involved in that crash. :(
