Hood adjustment

I removed the hard top for the 1st time yesterday on my newly acquired 2.8 facelift to reveal a near perfect original hood and back window.. Electrics work fine but it was a 2 man job to latch the hood down, me pushing down and son operating the latch. Getting it undone was a bigger issue but we got there in the end. The hook doesn’t look bent at all, should it be lubricated, but most importantly is there any adjustment?

No, it simply needs using. This happens with a new roof too, it will stretch out in time.

Well, the hook can be adjusted:

Thanks Tony, I guessed that might be the case, looking at the hood I doubt it’s been replaced just never used. If/when the hard tops been removed it’s been used top down.

Adjusting the hook isn't what you need to do. BUT, if you do, make sure to mark where it was or how many turns you make so that it goes back into the correct place.

I’ll leave it with the hood up for a week or 2 to see if it stretches before I get my Allen key out!

I would say that requiring two people to latch/unlatch the soft top counts as 'excessively hard', as per note above.

I did have a similar issue with mine, and adjusting the hook resolved the problem. By the way, the quote above is from a document issued to BMW dealers, which can be found in the 'Resources' section of the forum:

Soft tops can shrink back if left open and un-used. As said above leave it up for a while. Also a good soaking and drying will help.
