The University of Tasmania Car and Motorcycle Society has a few events every year. Last weekend we went from Hobart to the Great lakes taking the windy country roads. We had about 14 people in this run.
We set off for the historical town of Bothwell at about 12 PM. In front was the society leader in a newly acquired 2012 Nissan G35 GTR, black with about 28k Klm on the clock, 505Hp. What a rocket! Also amongst the pack was a 3.0 Porsche 944 S2 with new stainless exhaust. I was in my Z3 3.0i with newly installed Bilstein B8s in all 4 corners, a Mazda Miata, and several other somewhat standard cars.
The wife said, 'drive safely.' I replied, 'heck no, I am going to drive unsafely but just being careful not to have an accident!' lol. She wasn't happy.
Once we got onto the country roads is was 'hell for leather' to Bothwell for a late lunch. How fast did we go? Well lets just say I set a new personal best of 120kph through a 55kph signed area. I got up just over 170kph which wasn't too bad considering the road conditions. There were a couple of times I reached the limit of what I was prepared to do.
The GTR was first, then the Porsche, then me close behind [I was listen to his exhaust to gauge what was up ahead behind the blink corners - hence very little brake use]
After lunch we started to the Great Lakes at much the same pace. It did start to snow however so we had to slow down for the last several K's to be on the safe side. We can get a lot of black ice up that way.
Spent the night with no so much sleep due to the shouting and drinking mob across the carpark. To make matters even worse they were up bright eyed and bushy tailed before 8 AM! Hardly heard the guys, it was the girls constantly yapping like a pack of Chihuahua's on Red Bull.
Once we had some breakfast we split into 2 groups - one group went further up North with the rest of us heading back home with dry roads and sunshine. The Mazda and I had the roof down; topless driving at it's best!
The guy in the Mazda Miata was pedal to the medal on many occasions trying to keep up but to his credit, he did well. There was another young lad in a Honda 1.8 something or other and what he lacked in power he made up with handling and fearlessness!
That's it for now
