Hi I am Elisabeth and drive a z3 1997 model
I am wondering if anyone knows someone in the Surrey area who can repair a plastic rear window?

If it has the original roof it's (probably;)) not worth the effort. You can get a new complete hood from £300. Which is not a huge amount more than a new window. Post up some pictures of the window and surrounding edge of the roof.

Tony.

ps. Welcome to the forum from me near Lincoln.

:welcome:

As said above, new roof is the sensible option.

Hi, welcome from Mansfield

I needed a new roof on my Z3 last year. The rear screen and come away at the corners. Looked into getting a replacement screen and this was £240. I was recommeded a bloke called Jack Smith in Swansea who does a lot of roofs for BMW Z3 and Mazda MX5, gave him a ring and ended up booking to get a new roof with a sewn in rear screen for £320. He is very popular and usually has a couple of months waiting list for roofs being replaced on a weekend. The roof is great quality and I'm very happy with it. The only thing I wish I had done was gone for red canvas instead of a black one.

If the original hood is in good condition, I would have the zipped in rear window replaced. The original has likely lasted for over 22 years, so a replacement should do the same.:)

After 22 years it likely won't be, hence asking for pictures.

May well be, nothing really to compare to. A couple of weeks ago a vehicle trimmer commented on how well it had lasted. Guess combination of few owners and largely garaged helps.

I agree mate and the one on the members car may be worth doing in context of the condition of the roof but I'll reserve judgement till I see pictures. The next thing is to find someone keen enough to fit one I guess.

Tony.

Hi and welcome from me in Scotland :welcome:.
The only thing that's could be an issue with fitted window only is the new one being tight and bursting the zip stitching on the roof side .
My wife's z3 when we bought it had had this done and it had bust partially on one side and fully on other .
I managed to get some bonded nylon thread and with a bit of patience managed to stitch it back together ( but still leaks slightly in lower corners in heavy rain)

Welcome to the site Elisabeth. You have come to a good place for tips and knowledge for your Z. Would love to see some pictures of your car. We are all pretty much Z daft on here and like finding old cars and new owners.

Sorry to hear about the window. It's a job z owners are pretty familiar with. Like the members have said, if you do have a chance to post some pictures, it would really help to assess what might need done. Some scenarios:

Ripped or Torn - You can actually patch it up or a new one can be bought and zipped in provided the hood is an original bmw hood. If its beyond repair, there are a few options for new ones for around £100, less for a second hand replacement. If so, there are a few members who break Z3 cars and may have them available.

Too cloudy to see out of - It might just need some product rubbing on.

The zip is unattached from the Hood - Sewing Kit time

What ever happens. There's a decent fix for it, absolute worst case, a brand new hood and window is around £350 fitted.

Good luck!

Hi @elisabeth, :welcome: to the forum from me too in Staffordshire. As said above some pics will help sort your roof out.
