Hi @Somersetlandmark, :welcome: to the forum from me too in Staffordshire. As others have said you need to have a drive in both a Z4 and a Z3 as although they share a 'Z' in their name they are totally different beasts. As @Bazza said @Mrs Mint and I did have a Z4 for some months with a view to seeing if we preferred it over the Z3 we have had for 4 years. We gave the Z4 a good chance, even taking it on a 2,500 mile trip to Lake Como in the summer. But in the end we decided the Z3 was the car for us and moved the Z4 on.

At the end of the day you can get lots of information from an Internet forum but you will have to get out and drive the different versions to see which you prefer.

But for £6K you'll get a great Z3 and have change;). Best of luck with your search and keep us informed of your decision:thumbsup:

Well - I feel I'm properly a member of the club now. I've just bought a z3 3.0. It has a boot full pf water, more dings and scratches than i can count, but it goes really well and is i think mechanically sound, so lots of fettling to come. Already fixed the electric roof which wasn't working. I'll try and upload some photos when I have some.
I've a really big grin!

...It has a boot full of water...
Have a look at the seal on the third brake light in the boot lid - prime culprit for letting water in. If it's not that it will probably be the aerial grommet.
Best of luck;)

Hi @Somersetlandmark , good to hear you've got yourself a car now. Sounds as though you'll have some work to do which will create a bond with the car. Did the asking price leave you some "fettling" money?

Tony.

Here are some photos, they're off ebay so not too good but give the gist.
List of jobs is getting longer.. Find some mirrors, Airbag light, tracking, new tyres, service... Good clean and do-moldify
But it was cheap, so still have funds to improve

Excellent, now your truly one of the clan! As Tony says you can spend time fettling and spending to make him/her mint now and built up a bond. A lot of us on here including myself bought these as a life long companion so there's no better way to get to know your car. If it requires paint we have a new member of here @Sean d is a painter and had done finished painting his own Zed and it's look superb.

The list keeps on going but the satisfaction of crossing yet another off the list is overwhelming at times. Take your time this is a marathon not a sprint so enjoy it!! JIM
