I bought my Z3 from a friend. The first time I saw it was in the dark, before he decided to sell it. I of course drove over to his house to look over it in daylight and to have a test drive. As I approached his house, I looked down and saw the Z3 in profile, just as the sun came out. I have to say the hairs on the back of my neck stood to attention and I took a sharp intake of breath. I was smitten, I thought she was beautiful in the extreme, the Montreal paintwork glowed and the flowing lines just looked.....well, so right! That was over 5 years ago and
even now I sometimes still gaze at her, just to drink her in, and each time I still get that little thrill that runs through me. And Z3lda never disappoints me when I drive her either. If a car can have a gender, then to me she is undoubtedly a voluptuous female!

Perhaps it's a generational thing, my 40 year old son much prefers Z4s, whereas for me, they do nothing!

Love at first sight happened to me!

Conrad, It might hit you the same way, if it does, be it Z3 or Z4, you will know !
All the best.

:drinks:

Bonzo.

I'm from the West of Scotland near Loch Lomond where I have a stable full of 2 wheelers , a Bermudan sloop garden ornament ,2 rugrats taller than me and the most understanding squeeze in the business.

At this time of year I am commuting (30 miles round trip) on 4 wheels which at the moment is an alfa GT. You see I am an alfa romeo refugee. I want a soft top 2 seater and as much as I love alfas the latest Brera shaped spider does nothing for me. The old GTV style spider makes me almoooost.......nah still dont like it.

So its going to be a Zed. Not sure which one yet , at the moment a Z4 but the Z3 also fits the bill. I managed to Keep the Alfa on the road for 4 years so although I know which end of the screwdriver to hold I have no knuckles , patience or money left.

I have a few questions to ask before I splash the cash which is why I joined the forum early. Please to meet you all and thanks for having me along.
Cheers
Conrad

And the winner is ........
I did mean to do a bit more research before deciding but what I thought was a good deal came up and made the decision for me. As much as I love the Z3 this was too good to miss.
2003 Z4 2.5 with 75k , A wee bargain.
Permanent grin mode enabled. Woohoo :)

Well that must be some kind of record. Day 3 of ownership and the front os spring breaks in the car park at work.If you look closely you can see my street cred vanishing down the drain. Pretty p***** off and looking forward to a hefty bill. Might not send a Christmas card to the roads department this year.

Price will depend if it has Sport suspension and if you want to fit genuine Spring Conrad.

Normally I would do this myself but not the time of year for getting the spanners out. I don't mind original or other so long as it's quality. I guess I should be paying for 2 though. I'll wait for the garage report then go sell a kidney.

It shouldn't be too much as long as you don't ask a main dealer to do it. I'd try a local independent, and not necessarily a BMW indy either. I would expect changing a spring is an easy job for any mechanic

Z4 struts come off very easily. compressing the short springs can be interesting.
