Hey Tim, welcome from Lincoln UK. You have chosen a really great car to have fun driving and repairing. I hope you enjoy it and this forum, it's a great place for all could need to know. I seem to think there is a Lincoln in Nebraska, isn't that local to Oklahoma? Please excuse my mistake if not.

Lincoln, Nebraska is about 400 miles, only 8 hours @ 75mph, North on Interstate Highways,
Have never been there. It is on the Plains, as is Oklahoma.
I have wondered if Linclon, NE is named after your city or our President Abraham Lincoln,
as that part of the world was being settled about the same time as he was president.
I was born in East Liverpool, Ohio. Never heard of a West Liverpool, unless someone was thinking
east the long way around the world, for a joke.

OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We just drove right past you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I just bought a 3.2 //M in San Diego. Flew out from Philly with a fellow member who flew in from Wales in the UK to help me drive it back to Egg Harbor Township, NJ. In fact he was driving a little too fast across the Texas panhandle and the police from Shamrock, TX clocked him at 107 in a 75 and stopped us. They took him with them and I had to drive 9 miles into OK to make the first legal U turn to go back to Shamrock to get him. I thought they were going to toss him into jail for a few days, but they were civil about it and let him go after he paid the ticket.
So welcome to the forum from New Jersey. Too bad you didn't join sooner. We could have met up and had dinner, or a beer or something. Glad to have you with us. Frankie

I never considered myself a Countdown contestant or anything but wouldn't that put you 200miles past?

I suppose you could always slow down a little or find some traffic.

Yes, you are correct.
I noticed after posting, but was too lazy and sleepy to change, and because I knew someone catch it.
In my defense, I will just say: Not the way I do it.
Generous stops for coffee and breaks as it is a dull drive north across Oklahoma and Kansas, so it would take me about that long.

In most of the US, all the land was surveyed on a Longitude/Latitude Grid basis, 36 mile square townships, with subdivisions of 1 square miles (corrected as needed for our round shaped earth). This results in the flat areas, most of US west of the Mississippi river to the Rocky Mountains, being mostly straight roads with 90 degree turns. In fact I have to drive about 100 miles to get to any hilly areas to find curves which you in the UK have in abundance.

Very much so around here. We share the 'built on 7 hills' tag with Rome.

A few years ago I got an opportunity to drive from Las Vegas to Palm Springs but was advised against it and told "it's the most boring drive you'll ever take, just one long road" How wrong (for me) that advice was. That's the sort of road I never normally see and I thought it was a absolute pleasure, so much so that I did it again a year later.

It took me 4 hours at 70mph. Must have been all of 200miles away

The added bonus is you can have a nap if you get tired and still remain on course

Getting sleepy is the largest problem for yourself and to watch out for.

A couple of hundred years ago, I would have needed a boat, not a car.
Amsterdam Schiphol Airport (name means 'ship graveyard'..!!) is six meters under sea level......

Thank you for a great explanation Tim. I often wonder myself how/when these towns and cities were named. I guess many would have come across the ocean with the founding fathers all those years ago. We spend time in Florida and have visited. St. Augustine as the place the English originally landed on the American continent. A great place to see.

The drive back from Palm Springs was the worst for that. We'd had a late and boozy night previously and just finished 36 holes of golf and I was the only (shattered) driver. My friend talked for the entire 4 hours knowing if he stopped for even a moment I might nod off.

Unfortunately we had no other option as we were on an early flight home the next day.

Lesson learned for the following year when there were two of us sharing the driving and after just 18 holes that day, definitely better.

You might have been confused, I live in Oklahoma and the damage locally closest to where I live was 20 miles from me. Usually these things are terrible but very localized. The tornado close to Tulsa, OK ,was a different matter. I saw the most amazing photos of the storm approaching Sand Springs, OK,, beautiful and terrifying.
The hail from the storms is often a bigger damage problem, in fact we call spring HTH: Hail and Tornado and Hay-fever season.
I will be in some of the state today with some damage, will report what I saw later
