It does have 11 months mot thought any advice would be appreciated it also appears to have a few sutle msport badges did the make an msport z3 .?

If you're referring to badges on the steering wheel, gear stick etc. they're quite common mate. Sounds and looks like you have found yourself a nice car. Corrosion on the outer sill covers is quite common, considering it's 20 years old. These are still available from BMW and don't cost an arm and a leg either.

Are there any known issues with the abs systems the last owner said the lights have been on for a few months but I thought it would have been a mot failure it was moted at the start of June ?

If the ABS light wasn't following it's correct sequence at the time of test then it should have failed the test, but, it is what it was doing "at the time of test" that matters. A common issue is the wheel speed sensors which give problems. Have you got anything to read the codes on the OBC? If not that's your best first option.
It did fail on ABS problem in 2009 Dave.

Date tested 10 June 2009
Fail
Mileage 104,914 miles
MOT test number 3526 9146 9184
Test location unavailable until further notice

Reason(s) for failure
  • Nearside Front coil spring cracked (2.4.C.1a)
  • Anti-lock braking system warning lamp indicates an ABS fault (3.4.1c)
Advisory notice item(s)
  • Nearside Front brake disc slightly pitted (3.5.1h)
  • Offside Front brake disc slightly pitted (3.5.1h)

Hi I noticed that but the last mot was on June the 6th 2018 but it didn't fail or have any advisories when I looked at the car today the 2 warning lights were on and had been for several years ,he said he had a auto electrician look at it and had said it was a wiring fault but I thought it was worth a gamble considering what I paid for it I don't have any way of reading the codes but thinking I better get some thing is there any thing that will read both my z3 and my 2006 x3 ?
Thanks
Dave

TBH I'm not sure about that Dave. Someone will correct me if I'm wrong but I think INPA would read both cars?

Tony.
