Hi Kolin wellcome to the site,i'm also a new member. Like you i sold my bike last year (honda blackbird) and bought a Z3 in jan this year. I did'nt consider anything other than a 2.8 to be honest so it could have been a costly mistake, but i'm pleased to say i feel i made the right decision as i absoloutly love it cus it's good on fuel, has great performance, plenty of leg room( i'm over 6 foot tall) and it just puts a big smile on my face:happy: wen i drive it. Also turning out to be cheap to maintain. But take your time, there's a range of options to look for like heated seats, air con etc. we traveled to cornwell from nottingham to get this 1 as it had the things we were after. Kind regards.Steve.
Thanks Steven, I will definitely be trying a few 2.8's before I make my decision, at reaching the age of 60..this Saturday! I just Felt it was safer to be in a car rather than riding around two up with the wife as pillion, it's a shame because I have been riding bikes Since I was 10.
Aulthough to be honest i have never been a particularly fast rider so a 1.9 may just suit my needs after all.
regards Kolin.

Hi and welcome from up near Lincoln Kolin, as suggested try before you buy, but you will notice that when you're driving with your backside only a few inches off the road even running at 60 seems fairly quick! Which ever way you go one thing is for certain, you will enjoy it, guaranteed! :)

Thanks Grumpy, I'm sure your not when your driving your 2.8! I'm in no rush as my Z is just going to be my toy but so many people have tried to steer me to the 2.8 I'm really not looking for a fast car so have only test driven 1.9's upto now I think I should test drive the 2.8 for a comparison.
That's the thing to do kolin. Try both and make your own decision. Your only reading others opinions and when all said and done it's your money your spending and not ours! To get a nice car I would give yourself £2500 as a bench mark. Obviously the time of year is against you as prices flutuate during the summer months as with bikes as you'll know. I would do your test runs to decide which engine you really want then pick your colour combo and stick to your guns. Once you find the right mix you'll be happy with you choice.

Mines was £2500 there are what i would class as bargains out there. As said drive a few then you will feel and see the difference in a good and bad one.
I knew by the pics and the first conversation with the last owner it was the right car and it was love at first sight lol.....

Thank you all for your comments. I have finally found my new toy... A Red Zed 1.9 not perfect and needs a little tlc, and has all the usual problems, seat bushes have worn seat belt runners have snapped, the rear window needs replacing, third brake light corroded (now fixed) a few age related scratches, and a slight front end bash But for all that she was well within my budget she drives fantastic and I love her!!

Hi @kolin , and welcome to the forum. I see that you have made a wonderful choice and a good looking car. I had purchased a '96 1.9L in July of 2013 and joined this forum for advice. I became friends with many of the members. The car was in good condition, however, it needed a new top which I replaced myself but ended having it refitted by a professional as I wasn't completely happy with my end result. My car was a Boston Green with a black top. I replaced it with a tan top. In a way, there were 3 tops:

In June of 2014, I had become so friendly with many of the forum members that I decided to go to the UK and meet some of them. While over there, I rode in their Z3's and was impressed with the Z3///M's power, particularly the one owned by @miller1098. After arriving home, I began to look on Craigslist for one and foune it in San Diego, California. Informing the forum members that I was going to buy it and drive it across country, @miller1098 kindly volunteered to help me and we did just that. I think he liked the car very much..............

Some vid. driving it through Arizona.....

Now I'm going to sell my 1.9, but I am having second thoughts. Its possible, if I can get cheap enough insurance, to have both............???? Frankie in New Jersey

Hi Kolin, glad you've found your Zed. Always tinkering with mine, first job was the seat bushes, really satisfying once they were done. Enjoy it for the rest of the summer. Is it a summer car or will you be using all year round.
