Don't forget the 3.0 as well.
There are some buyers guides on the knowledgebase.

Welcome from me as well, and loads of help here.

Welcome @ady79,

Looks like you are getting sound advice already. From my perspective I've owned the 2.0 and now the 2.2i, and both are great engines. The 2.0 had to be pushed a bit harder than the 2.2i but still fun to drive (and boy did I have some fun drives in it!!). To be honest, you can't go wrong with any of the 6cyl engines...

Cheers, Gary

Welcome from Canada! Just want to point out that the M44 1.9 is highly under rated and can be had for a steal of a deal. I'm used to driving high HP cars and find the little 4 cyl to be a real shocker. It revs so quick I have to really watch the tach needle or I'm way over the red line before I expect it. Don't write them off without trying a good one out on the road. JIM

If it was me I would go for the 3 litre, better mpg than the 2.8
May struggle to find one for 3k though Jim. But should still be able to get a decent 2.8 for that. Ooooh welcome to the Forum good look with the search

Not much that you would notice. Well other than I'm now feeding the 2.2i on premium unleaded so costs have risen slightly. I'm not really working out MPG as my mileage is really low at the moment (home worker) and mainly local journeys. I'm also not that light on the loud pedal either ;)
