:welcome:..Hi Nick, I got my Z3 when the kids had flown the nest, the mortgage was paid off and we had decided to wind down work and retire and relocate to Norfolk. Hard to believe I've had her now for over 5 years. It's immensely satisfying carrying out work on the car you love, I have just replaced Z3lda's sills, and if your car's sills are original there is a good chance they will have some corrosion. Remember if there is sign of rusting it will almost certainly be worse on the insides. Most of the panels on Z3s are bolt ons, so replacement is straight forward, if involved. Likewise if all the suspension is original, shocks springs and bushes will be tired. There is a wealth of info. on the Knowledge base section, or just use the search button to find what you want. Or ask away on here for anything you want to know.

Thanks for the welcome Bonzo, and thanks for the advice. I've been going around it tonight and there is one small (and I mean tiny) amount of bubbling at the very edge of each sill (which I think could be due to the gathering of muck/water/salt that gets trapped behind the inner plastic wheel arch trim and stays in there forever!). Other than that, it's quite clean. I gathered the panels were bolt-on as I'm currently searching for a near side front wing and realised I could just change this myself, which is really handy (I think I have one sorted from a breaker!).

In regard to the rest of the car - I should get a good idea of what needs replacing when we get it jacked up on the ramps and have a good look around! A friend of mine has also kindly offered to run a diagnostic test on it, so that should show up anything in the fault history too.

Tonight was spent unclogging and cleaning the draining system that runs down each side of the pillars (ready for some clear sealant to placed over the triangular shaped indentations as they appear to be split and allows water to seep in) and removing various random items found under the passenger seat to see why the right hand side rail jams when I try to operate the electric control switch!

Enjoying it so far!

Cheers
Nick

Welcome Nick!

Getting difficult to find one these days that doesn't need work doing to it - the joys of buying an old - dare I say classic - car. You won't find many snobs in here we all have the same issues, some relating to the actual cars :D

Enjoy, Gaz
