IIRC it is on the bulkhead near the blower motor.

Tony.

I've replaced a lot of those over the years (on various makes) Malc and as far as I'm aware they're throw away parts.

They're probably repairable, depending on just exactly what's gone wrong, but whether it's worth hunting for the right bits and d*cking around for hours is another question entirely. You may be better off striving for international rock-godness.

Or turning Korean and learning some dance routines.

thinking about it …there should be a part number on it … so should be able to get the correct replacement

nothing to do with this thread but….. Started the 2.8 today …. wow it sounds really good =))=))=))

and the blower cowling is in 3 parts rather with lugs rather than just one piece with two straps

While you're in there make sure the drains a clear. Two of them. One either side of the heater air intake. Kind of like elephant trunks hanging down through the bulkhead into the engine bay. The bottom of the tube is flat to stop road muck being blown back up the tube. But because it's flat it traps muck and the area holds too much water that then overflows down the heater air intake into the cabin.

Well Guess what …. There are two resistors :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :arghh: :arghh:

according to RealOem…. If you have a Behr system. ( just std heater) Then the cowling is in three bits and the resistor is part number 64111375754

if you have air conditioning. ,the cowling is in one piece, and the resistor is part number 64116912633. And from the diagram this is the one that slots in under the blower and only accessable by removing the scuttle and wiper blades.

which leads me to believe that the one in my car is located in the car and requires the removal of some of the footwell trim.

So bit of a wasted morning looking in the wrong place ….=))………anyway ..Just put it all back together … and i did clean the drains out and I did replace the butyl strip on the scuttle.=))

I might have a look to see if I can find t(e resistor this afternoon….if it stays warm outside

Not wasted imo. A valuable learning experience and info passed on the wider group.
Thank you for your service!

This is something on my list of to dos also. Can any one confirm that the 4 pot cars have them under the dash instead? Seems strange to me that this would differ but the web seems to suggest the two locations. I've not looked yet plan to once I am home.

Finally……. Sorted!!!!! =)) =)) =)) =))

The resistor sits on the passenger side of the heater matrix in the cabin. (RHD car)

Just remove the glove box and the lower trim piece….and you can see it ( although it took me a while to spot it )

IMG_0224.jpeg

Its up where the yellow blue and green wires are…. Its stiff but will pull out….

a close up
IMG_0223.jpeg

After pulling it out disconnect the black plug… again was tight but just pulls off.
IMG_0225.jpeg

And the offending article….….

IMG_0226.jpeg

pretty rusty on all the terminals….although the coils were ok. (I took the metal cover off ..just 4 tangs to bend straight and it comes off)

But the reason it failed was a terminal has broken due to rust…. (The centre one)

IMG_0232.jpeg

I have ordered a new one and will be ready to collect from the Stealer tomorrow (£55.00…..:arghh::arghh::arghh:), But online was more expensive!,!!!!

I will play with this old unit and see if it can be cleaned and repaired ….(just out of curiosity) , …..but if it works, it might be useful to someone at some point.

Just thought I would add this….

27 years on, and the part has smaller
(neater) coils and the tabs are copper so they won’t rust !!!!

shame they didn’t think of that when It was designed originally
