Hi,

As promised, here is my first technical post. Let's see what damage I've done :(

As part of my heated seat swap (a bit of a disaster because my Facelfit car has pre-facelfit seat wiring loom - I'll post a new story on that when I've solved it), I had to find the heated seat dash switch connectors, that form part of every seat wiring loom, irrespective of whether heated seats were fitted at the factory. Lot's of forum advice on where these devils could be hiding. Some folks report them floating around visibily under the gear gaitor, others report them rolled up tidally behind the console and others report them tucked underneath various bits of carpet. I guess it might depend on how many "improvements" have been made by PO's and how many times the dash bulbs have been changed etc etc. Anyway, mine were well hidden behind the console, under the carpet. After much scraping of skin, I found them. I wasn't expecting them to be purple for a start! (re facelift / pre-facelift). I had to tug (gently) to get them free and all of a sudden I had dozens of "spare" connectors staring at me - well 5 anyway along with a wire with working bulb, presumably for the dash heater controls or something (i seem to remember previously thinking a bulb must have blown).
Cut a long story short, can anybody identify some or all of the connectors/plugs in the photo? - I can't believe that none of them need to be plugged in somewhere. As you can see from the photo, the switches are now in, in place of the blanks that were there. The battery is currently disconnected because the seats are still out of the car, so I can't fire the old girl up to see what is and isn't working. I don't want the SRS dash light to come on and need resetting. Everything was working before I started messing about by the way.

Any help would be greatly received.
Cheers, Matt.

I can see them but can't identify them. New member is trying to identify the heated seat switch connector in the loom under the centre console. There is a large and 2 small black terminals and 2 white terminals in the photo

Can you see them now? Maybe I'll try them as thumbnails instead (Bloody Newbie - sorry!). Jack - thanks. There are actually five unidentified connectors - there are two small black ones in addition to the larger black one and two white ones.

also, (sorry to correct you Jack) I have already found and connected the heated seat switches / connectors, these other 5 connectors appeared from nowhere in particular when I was messing about behind the console.

Hi @TopazedMatty Garry. I think the small black ones and the white one with a black bit are for the auto box.Not sure about the others yet

When I did mine I removed the whole centre console, but the heated seat switch connectors were the purple ones 6 way connectors
The bulb that you have, if like the one in the picture clips into the side of the cigarette lighter.
If not fitted on your car, One of the connectors is probably for air conditioning, one could be for an electric roof
If you let me have year and engine size of your car, I could trawl through bentleys circuit diagrams to identify them.

As far as I know all Z cars had the wiring for every extra, so you could just plug it in to the correct socket.
Maybe your spare plugs are part of this, and the weren’t plugged into anything?

My car has a lot of extras like heated seats, air con, OBC, rear window demister switch, electric roof, winter pack (heated washer jets and mirrors), HK audio upgrade and it still has spare connectors under the dash!! (98 manual 2.8)

Thank you for all the replies - while I couldn't sleep last night, I thought that there was a possibility that the M spec cars may have had the same loom as the standard cars. I know there are some extra dials and features on those and therefore some connectors would be redundant on mine. I hadn't considered the auto box switches, nor the cd player thing. My car has an OBC, Air con, electric roof, however it has an after market head unit, and is a manual so that explains why some of the connectors are redundant. The way they (the connectors) all jumped out at me with only a gentle tug on the heated seats switch wires, gives me faith (mainly because of your kind replies) that these were all rolled up together and were not in fact connected to anything.
My seat wiring adapter cables are in stock as of this morning, so I hope to get the new seats in over the next day or so. I can then re-connect the battery and switch everything on, to see if it all works again, with only a little fear that something won't work or that the dash will be like Blackpool illuminations (e.g. airbag warning lights etc). For our American friends, our Blackpool is very similar to your Las Vegas.;)
Hopefully having new (to me) toasty seats will make it all worth while. Will let you know how it goes.
Thanks again. Matt.

Hi Mazza, thanks for your reply. Actually, my whole issue relating to the seat swap is that although my car looks like a facelift, but the seat wiring loom at least is definitely pre-facelift. So there was I trying to find bright yellow heated seat swiches in every nook and cranny possible - and they turned out to be purple! But that was relatively a minor thing compared to finding out that my new facelift heated seats wouldn't be a straight swap. My car is a 03/2000 but the build date could have been earlier I guess and it seems I may have a MK1.5 effectively. I knew British Leyland used up the parts bins, didn't think our German friends did the same. Auf Wiedersehen.

If you look on the left suspension turret under bonnet there should be a label with build date on it. There are a few sites where you can check build date and the `left factory spec' but I cannot get them to work at present - try bmwvin.com.
