I've just completed an overhaul on the rear axle & suspension on my 97 2.8, Having replaced the brake pipes, put it all back together, and bled the brakes, I took it up and down a farm track for a quick test. Apart from slightly spongy brakes (no doubt a second bleeding is called for), all seemed fine except that the ABS and ASC lights are permanently on (yes, I did try the ASC switch). No doubt there's a bad connection, or I have damaged a lead or sensor somehere. Unfortunately both these new-fangled devices post-date my mechanic's training, when the workshop manuals were in latin, so can anyone save me hours of research and blind alleys by suggesting possible causes and how to systematically eliminate them? Thanks in advance.

I would try separating the ABS cable connectors and applying some electrical contact cleaner spray. Also before pushing the connectors together apply some lubricant (silicone dpray is good) to them so that the rubber parts slip together well.

Have you bled the pump itself? You can do the from the port in the engine bay.

I recently had these lights come on but it wasn't from bleeding. The solenoids in the back of the pump had some corrosion on. Took the back off the pump, cleaned off the corrosion with some fine sandpaper and away went the lights.

As said above, plug it in because it may point you in the direction. Also try just clearing the codes. If you've been working on the system it may just be having a hissy fit at you disconnecting things.

As others have said read the codes or erase them and then try again. It might just be that they have been disconnected - hopefully!
