I had the engine covers off today, and noticed this badly perished pipe. Could someone advise me as to what it does, and is it easy to change. Cheers Phil

It' looks like the spreader bar equaliser pipe Phil,it's part off the crankcase vententaltion system, they unclip at both ends, but it looks a trip to the main dealer for you.but it's an easy job to .
Jimmy.

Not sure if that is a outer protective cover for a pipe.

it looks like the same sort of material that the air intake hose is made of that runs over the top of the radiator, as said abive maybe a protective type heat shield for the pipe thats underneath...

Yep soft outer insulating material, encased around a hard nylon type tube which goes quite brittle over time, the pipe is only fitted on your m54 3.0 engine Phil.
Jimmy.

You were spot on @Jimmy Weston. It is the return pipe according to realoem. I've got the part number so I can get one ordered. Cheers.
