Hi, just bought a 2000 Z3 2.8 for my wife and a week later airbag light came on. Purchased a B800 tool and the code comes up as E10, can any one help as I have no instructions with the B800 tool ?

I think it depends on where you are plugging in the B800, you may need to connect to the round socket under the bonnet.

Tried both sockets and get the same result. Might have to buy a decent quality scanner?

I don't know for certain because my z3 doesn't have a socket under the dash. But having read topics here on the forum I believe the socket under the dash (if fitted in a z3) is only for engine related issues. Everything else, airbag, wheel sensors etc. Is only via the round socket in the engine bay.

The Guys are correct, the OBD socket under the steering wheel will only read the engine module, to read the airbag module this has to be done using a 20pin to 16pin obd2 cable changer plugged into the engine bay diagnostic socket.
Year 2000 car should connect ok to OBD2 scanners, I use a Creator 310+ scanner which connects ok to my 1999 Z3 and my 2003 Z4.
