Hi all.Need a bit of help please.Had to take the nearside Kingpin and hub off to drill out the seized ABS sensor and also drill out the 6mm screw holding it in,which sheared off.Managed to separate the two ball joints after a struggle but in doing so managed to damage the wheel suspension joint and now have to replace it.

Does anyone know how I release it from the wishbone. It looks as though it should just knock out but its stuck fast and I need to check please.

Many thanks.

David.

If you mean the bottom swivel joint, the one at the end of the strut, I changed the ones on my old E30, but needed a big hydraulic press to do the job. If you haven't got access to one of them you'll probably find it a lot easier to change the whole wishbone, and that way you get a new inner joint as well. Not that expensive from the likes of GSF. Sorry not to be more optimistic, but they (the joints) are in there pretty damn tight.

As Nefyn says, you will need a press to remove/refit. I bought and fitted Meyle heavy duty joints as not expensive. However if it is the case you have just bruised the thread you could use a die or a thread chaser to clean it up. A friendly engineering shop should sort it for you. If having to replace the joint or wishbone in the end then buy either Meyle or Lemforder as they are OE quality, hope it doesn't need to resort to that though. Best of luck.

Ok Nefyn and Synclare, thanks very much for that. Yes I did the unforgivable mistake of hammering the thread without fitting the nut and have flattened the thread. Will try a repair using a die and if that does not work will replace the complete thing as suggested.

Hi @Acousticplayer
The threads are metric fine M12 x 1.25 not the normal 1.5 pitch. I replaced the locknuts when I refurbed the hubs on mine and had to buy some new nuts rather than raid the stores.

Say Brian, now you got me really confused.RealOEM shows the locknut is M12 x 1.5 as you say. If this is so how can the thread on the male part be M12 x 1.25. Would they go together?

No, they wouldn't, Different thread pitch.

Tony.

Sorry Dave pitch of the bolt is 1.5 the standard metric is 1.75. Must have confused myself but standard nuts don't fit.
