I have a new to me 2000 Z3 2.3. It is in pretty nice condition and I am just going through and getting some of the maintenance out of the way. It has 90K miles so I will be changing the water pump ASAP. I am not sure if it has already been done so I will save myself some headaches.

I found an electrical clip under the hood that was unplugged. It is the clip on the passenger side right next to the washer tank. I would like to know what it is for before I plug it back in and do testing. Any ideas? Pic below.

Thanks in advance

Sorry, I can't tell what that would be, more pictures would be helpful with a wider angle maybe. Have you found anything not working that should. Does the car have the so called "Smog pump" fitted.

@Crizyal I think is could be the connectors for the heated washer jets.
That would make sense. I am guessing that it was unplugged by mistake then. I wouldn't think anyone would intentionally unplug that. It would be pretty hard to spot a problem unless there was a dead short. I haven't found anything that was not functioning yet. Not sure if there is a smog pump (if that is a real thing). This was a North Dakota car.

Here is a wider angle pic.

The Smog pump on my 2000 Z3 was fitted where your windscreen washer bottle is placed, so unless it is at the other side of the motor it doesn't have one. Yes, they are real ! Fitted only for the US market by the way.

If it was for the smog pump, would it be to my advantage (performance wise) to leave it unplugged?

No, I don't think so. I removed mine because the bearings failed in the pump motor. It still passed the UK emission test with flying colours even with it removed. It only runs for a few seconds after start up then shuts off.

Tony.

ps. It does look though as if it has the capsule fitted to the cylinder head next to the washer bottle. If you have a picture of the whole engine bay I can tell you if it's there or not.

It is for heated washer jets , I bought a donor car and it had them fitted so I swapped them over. There is a loom that connects to the plug and runs up to the washer jets.
