Hi before everyone says swap the engine or trade...

guys, I was intending on upgrading the engine on my recently purchased 1,9 Z3, to a 2,5. The car I purchased has a Zavoli LPG system that worked fine, but know requires minor fixes cost about 200€ instead of fixing the older system I decided to change the whole lpg system ECU becks etc. for a cost of 550, ordered today which unfortunately changes my time schedule for the engine.
Here’s the whole problem, the new Zafolia lpg system can only support 4 cylinder up to 140hp or I need to get a more expensive unit. My new plan is once fitted to try to increase the hp from 118 to 138.
Does anyone know about real methods to obtain this hp with this engine??

You will be very lucky to see that sort of gain with an NA Engine unless you have a wad of cash to throw at it. Only real way is exhaust change, possibly air filter (but these have sometimes shown less BHP) rebore and cam upgrade maybe a modified manifold. You need to get more gasses in and be able to push them out quicker. I personally would not waist my money. JMHO

I also own a 2,2 z4 04 and first generation and a sdrive 2,5 sdrive 2009. What I would like to do is accurately and truly increase the 1,9 baby I have to 140hp. Not just to help it breath.
Does anyone trust remapping??

Remapping a 1.9 wont gain you anymore ponys but should help with the way the car distributes the power. We had our 3.0 Z3 remapped as did a few on here when we arranged a remap day at evolve in Luton and to be honest all we all gained was better response and no extra horses.
All you can do is upgrade the cams and get it re bored then get it mapped then you may see 140+ extra
Its not about getting the car to breath more but getting more gasses in to be able to burn more and then getting the gasses out as quick as you can

You will need to do the following
an exhaust upgrade
A lighter fly wheel
an induction kit or ram air kit
remove as much weight as possible
if you still have not got to the required BHP then the next step would be
Race cams
Re bore
Remap
When you have spent your 1k+ you can always just change the engine

The m43 engine can be supercharged or turbocharged ( conversion kits out there to do either ) but either of those would give you too much power to run your lpg

If you remap lpg, you should get more power. LPG is a cleaner fuel and has a higher octane rating than petrol (110 iirc). The higher octane rating means that the engine will be much more tolerant to modifications.

You could increase the compression ratio. Find out the octane rating of the lpg that you use, and skim the head to get a CR appropriate to that octane. You will need to check what the maximum allowable skim is on the head.

A head skim is under £50 if they don't need to do any dismantling.

You could also port and polish the head if it looks like it's a bit obstructed.

Clean up the ports and valves.

New gasket kit + lapped valves.

Take a look at the air filter box and attack it with a Dremel if it has obstructions.

Full service, new oil and filters.

Remap the new built to suit the lpg fuel and the modifications.

The only thing that I would do would be a service and a remap.

Firstly thanks for your time, and help. I was aware that lpg has a higher octane level but wasn’t aware of the rest. Just fully serviced, prior to oil change I did an engine flush, and after added motorkote, runs a lot smother, also added it to the transmission fluid runs smoother as well. So it looks like I have some homework to do.
Any other recommendations please send them my way

Hi guys, after some thought and since my main concern is not to exceed 140hp due to the LPG
, I was thinking of swapping my e36 engine with a m44 , does any one have any experience with this? I hear it’s quite easy, simple swap.....
Does anyone know what other options I have engine wise, as I would prefer to swap my engine with something newer rather than older...

Thanks in advance
