Hi everyone,

Got an issue with me 98 2.8 Z3. When accelerating after around 2500-3000rpm a buzzing sound starts. When I press the clutch it’s gone, change the gear and it’s still present and increasing with acceleration. As I am going to restore the car completely and I will be getting the clutch done next week. Have some had similar issue, if yes what was it and if the clutch changed solved the problem or was it more to it. Secondly when I lifted the car I saw one connector unplugged that is near the washer bottle (washers works perfectly). Any idea what it is? Picture of the connector attached. Unfortunately can’t upload the video of the buzzing sound.

Sounds like the release bearing. Without being able to hear it, of course. Generally if the noise goes away when you push the clutch pedal down a bit (or starts when you do it) it'll be the release bearing.

And this site doesn't accept video, but putting it on youtube and posting a link gets round that.

Thanks for your reply and suggestion with link. Would you happen to know by any chance what this loose connector could be?

I'd hesitate to guarantee it, but on some 2.8s there's a pump to do with emissions, mine's a 2.2 so no real knowledge of yours but this may help

This could be possibly a good lead. Thanks Nefyn

The loose connector could be anything TBH. I have stripped my Z3 and have found at least 8 'spare' plug connectors (and mine has most of the 'extras' on it). The wiring loom was common with other models, I think.
