Morning,
Purchased my first Z3 yesterday.
They havent been on my radar for long. I was ideally looking for a 3.0, but my budget was fairly limited.
Picked up this 2.2 for just over £2k, which I think was a fair price given the specification.
Been a long time BMW fan, had a few e39s in the past, but now driving a more modern BMW as a daily, I always miss the old school feel of the 90s.
I feel the Z3 is starting to become a little more sought after, so decided to go for it whilst I had the chance.
Never owned a convertible or a 2 seater before, the car feels sublimely small compared to the modern stuff and is a joy to drive - despite being a little tired.
Drove 80 miles home with the top down yesterday, must admit - I had a grin from ear to ear.
The car has been loved in the past going by the pile of invoices, but don't think its had the attention it deserves over the past couple of years.
Don't trust the photo, it looks good, but every panel is a problem - fair bit of oxidation over the bonnet and rear quarters, Initially I thought the paint was too far gone, however I did a patch test with the machine polisher yesterday and it seems to have removed 90% of it. Few dents and dings here and there which will be removed in due course, as well as corrosion in all the common areas.
Will be wet-sanding the headlights this week as they have gone pretty cloudy.
Will see how the car treats me over the next 12 months and will consider having the corrosion repaired professionally - not had it on the ramps yet, but after a quick peek under it looks pretty solid.
It will more than likely spend most of its time in my garage, so will be the recipient of after work / weekend tinkering.
The aim is to get the car looking a bit more presentable, sorting all the issues, then ideally making a few handling improvements.
At the moment there is a hollow rattle from the rear, sounds like two separate noises - almost like a loose heat shield, thats tonight's job.
Look forward to reading through the forums, especially the classifieds section!
Cheers,
Alex.
