Hi All,

Just thought I'd say hello - I've been registered a little while but have only been properly looking through the site in recent days. You all seem helpful, friendly and informative.

I'd also like to introduce you to Misty (I suspect most of you can guess how she got her name!), who I recently inherited from a (now ex) gf and was described as a banger on ebay when first purchased a couple of years ago (the car, not the ex).

There's a few things I'm planning on doing over the next few weeks which are:

- a thorough service by a local bmw mechanic who has been recommended to me - though if anyone has a recommendation for the west London/Ealing area, I'm happy to take advice.

- sort out the leaking roof, which I assume will either be a new roof, or adjusting/fixing the seals on the passenger side - Misty collects a fair amount of water in the passenger footwell.

- both wing mirrors are kaput - previous owners had 'fixed' them by driving great big phillips head screws through the casings! Currently held on by a combination of duct-tape and parceltape - functional but not pretty! I was thinking that something like these would do the trick -

Again, any thoughts on the subject are welcome.

Lastly, once the mechanics, leak and mirrors are sorted then the paintwork (oh and the centre caps and bonnet badge have all disappeared!) along with a few other bits and pieces (door cards/damp carpets/ etc!) will be dealt with.

So, that's me saying hello and setting out my (now I'm reading it, a fairly considerable) stall - if there's interest, I'll keep you updated with progress.

Best,
Frank

Hello and welcome from Truro. Zed mirrors are expensive at £200-300 per pair, that's if you can find any. Lots of owners prefer to keep to OEM parts but if mine went I'd look at replacing them with non OEM if I had to. Some of the early MX5 mirrors are not too far different to Zed mirrors and are a fraction of the cost. It's worth a look

good god do not fit those mirrors
I'm not particularly attached to them, just want something simple and functional that doesn't involve tape or taking out an overdraft! Any suggestions?

Hi Frank, and welcome from Cardiff. It won't take you long to get Misty looking good again, but that is part of the fun.
Enjoy the forum mate.

Hi and welcome from Surrey, I agree with all the previous comments on the mirrors. I would take them off and investigate some kind of repair, it is surprising what can be accomplished with filler, fibreglass and patience. :welcome:

Hi from Mansfield. Mirrors? Nope! Hold out for a used pair. Hunt all the online sites. Something will turn up.
