Hi,
Nice to be part of the club, have a 98 1.9, a rescue from a friends garden had been sitting under a tree left their due to a breakdown some 8 months earlier.
After a good clean, and replaced alternator, few other bits and pieces, it's running ok, but have some niggles boot central locking not working, drivers window drives up to far, had to disable the alarm to to continually sounding.

Would appreciate any help in these areas.
Lenny

Hi Lenny and welcome from mansfield. Boot locking issue could be the loom of doom in the boot. They break and split effecting the central locking. The alarms get upset if the battery has been left to go flat. You may have to strip the glove box out and reset it.
No pictures are a sin on here, best get your camera out!

Welcome Lenny,

Have a look at where the wiring loom goes in to the boot lid, a common failure point usually referred to as the "boot loom of doom". You'll need to cut back the sheathing to inspect and see if any of the wires have broken and patch as necessary.

The alarm is likely the bonnet switch which you can disconnect to see if that's the cause. Pull the connector off the back once you've found it!

Drivers window will likely be the mounting bolt that had failed that keeps the regulator held in a certain position.

From factory that mounting bolt is riveted in position, however the rivets fail after a while.

As the regulator is no longer held in the intended position the window stop will not work as intended. The window stop is essentially an adjustable screw that hits a stopping point once the window gets to a certain height. However when the mounting bolt fails that stopping screw misses the stopping point and window continues to go up past where it would normally stop.

I would weld the mounting point back on and when you're attempting the repair it's a very good idea to replace the window regulator clips as well - about £8 for a pair from the dealer if I remember rightly.

Anyway, welcome to the forum :)

P. S I've got some niggles with my boot not locking and after owning the car for more than 2 years now I still can't figure it out. I would try what @GazHyde said as that seems to work for most.

Hi guys,
That's. A great response in so short a time, thank you so much, will try the fixes mentioned, and add the odd photo, thanks again, for the welcome.

Cheers
Lenny
