Hello everyone,

First post might as well be the kick-off post for the rehab and minor modifications of a 1997 (09/30/96) 1.9 Z3 that just came into my possession. Normally wouldn’t have brought this home but the price of a just a tow dolly was too hard too pass up. The car has been sitting for the last 8 years and the former owner is a friend of mine. He started it frequently but never drove it. States car will not go into gear, HVAC does not cool, did not pass CA smog and radio code is in lock out.

Not knowing the overall condition of the vehicle, I wasn’t going to try to bring it home by myself originally...just have AAA bring it over. But I guess with AAA you have to be present now so I decided to just bring it home myself.

During the bring it home process, got it easily running with a battery booster. Add new battery to first item on list. Also got the car to go into gear fairly easy, checked the tires and around the block I went after I warmed it up with the fairly new top down. OK, suspension rehab also needs to be added to list. Car pulls strong at a 150k on the clock (ugh). Still going to dump money into this. Haven’t been with a slot car in a long while and am looking forward to drives.

That’s a 74’ 2002 under the car cover and I also have a 2006 E46 ZHP and an E90 335i with the 300HP twin.

After some thought and research, I’ve ordered the Bilstein B12 system. It will be here here on Tuesday. Working with APEX on the wheel selection now, likely 17x8.5 & 9 staggered in hyper black. Looking at roll bar options and getting ready to do the deep dives. It’s at my friendly neighborhood euro shop now for a complete fluid change overall inspection. Once it comes home, I’ll begin the process of suspension, bushings, hoses and belts. The shift knob broke off while test driving so a new poser leather M one inbound from some foreign country. The hood has a front I bumped something and will do a crappy self repair hide it with a bra thing going on. Will likely get sent down the street for hood and bumper paint; not for perfection but emotional drivability. Hoping this can replace my real last driver, a fairly built 83 MK1 Rabbit GTI. I still have a MK1 Scirocco today but it’s under the knife right now. Goal for this is not fast, just strong and hold the road like gorilla tape. Rehab will be little little,

Have a few questions I’m researching but fell free to answer lol.
- Is there a black center console insert for the clock in black. Found wood grain and stainless but can’t find black. Want to remove clock and put in wideband in its place.

- Researching roll bar. I have stand offs, but not exactly sure what I need right besides the bars and console. Would imagine I need brackets.

- What is CARB compliant or allowable for the 1.9? Not looking for monster, just a little confidence and customizing satisfaction.

Will use this thread to document progress and remind me of stuff I need to do. Thanks.

Hi @Oldskool welcome from me near Lincoln UK. There is a wealth of info on here just for the asking. Wish you well in all you do with this little beauty. Please feel free to add pictures of your other cars as we're all car nuts under the skin. Looking forward to being on your side of the pond soon.

Tony.
