Hi all, I've been a lurking in the background for just 12 months now so thought it was about time I introduced myself.

I'm Jack, originally from the Black Country who emigrated to Cornwall back in 1995.

I bought my Z3 in December last year, when I finally accepted I wasn't going to ride motorbikes any more, dodgy knees and all that. Well, it was either a Z3 or a girlfriend and I thought the Z3 would be easier to explain to the missus than a girlfriend would.

I bought her on a wim really. I was driving through Poole in Dorset and I saw her on a garage forecourt. I stopped to have a look, the salesman came out dangling the keys and 45minutes later, after a test drive and a visit to the "hole in the wall" I'd bought her.

In the 12 months I've owned her I've treated her to a hard top and one and a half sets of Z4 wheels, courtesy of Ebay.

Hey Jack and welcome from here near Lincoln. Post us some pictures of your car, everyone likes that. Getting a hard top, does that mean yours is a winter and summer car?:)

Tony.

Hi Tony,
I bought the hardtop because it was cheap and was local. I got it for £600 including the fitting kit and a storage bag. I haven't put it on for this winter yet though.
I work away from home quite a lot so only get to drive her at weekends, and even then she shares my affection with an old Merc 230ce. She's on the road all year round though.

That's a cracking price for the top and fittings mate, well done. Mine is garaged from end of Nov till next April. I spend the winter in my Touareg, she's a bit more reasonable on icy roads than the Z. ;)

Tony.

I need to get some new side window seals and get it proper colour matched, it's actually painted Sapphire Black but it doesn't look too bad.
The guy I bought it from said he hadn't had any interest what so ever and I was surprised to get it for the price I did.

I'll take some more pics when I put the Z4 wheels on.

Welcome to the forum from me too.
I had a black 230CE back in the 90's, fully loaded and lowered with 19 inch wheels, I loved that car but the wife said it made me look like a pimp........

It was not just her Tony, it is ridiculous how some people react to some cars.
At the time I was contracts manager for a big deal we had going with an oil company and I had to visit their head office once a week in the Hague and I used to park up quite a way from their building but this was not good enough for our head office in Aberdeen.
They gave me (forced me) a crap piece of French company car as they said, and I quote, "we can not have our employees driving around in big Mercs". Bunch of wossers.......I just took it as jealousy, as our director drove a Ford.

Welcome Jack,

That's a great story as to how you came by your Z3! Did you wife appreciate the logic of "it's either this or a girlfriend"? :D

Cheers, Gary

If you were brave enough to drive a manual Z3 Tony, driving on ice in a puny 2.0 would be fine!;)

This is the Merc C240 V6 Avantgarde I literally swapped for the Z. Just swapped out keys and paperwork.
I just realized that these are the only photos of the car that I have. Christmas 2009.
I already had the Z but did not pick her up until Feb as there was a hell of a lot more snow on the way.
