Hello fellow Zs!

I have a 2.8L 1999 pre-facelift wide rear Z3 and love it!

She needs a middle silencer and I'm struggling to find one. BMW say I need a CAT but I don't (she's just gone through her MOT fine). An exhaust company said if I can find the part, they'll fit it. Ebay looks to have one I can use but I'm not sure if it will fit. Do any of you guys know if this will solve my car's blowing exhaust, please?

If you search for this on Ebay, I'm hoping one of you clever Zs will know:

BMW Z3 CABRIO 1.8 1.9 2.8 116/140/192HP 1995-2000 Exhaust Rear Silencer #161545926468

Not done it myself but from what I have seen on here it makes next to no difference.

Hello and welcone to the forum.
The small middle box is a resonance box so just tunes out a few of the frequencies. Mine had rusted at both ends, so I got my local indie garage to cut it out and replace it with a straight through section. Overall it makes very little difference to the sound. Maybe a little more boom at low speed and I thought it was slightly quiter at motorway speeds. It certainly won't make you sound like a boy racer based on my experience.

Hi and thanks. Mine has rusted very badly at either end of the silencer so sounds very much like how yours went. A local garage gave me the same option of cutting it out. The exhaust that I'm looking at: the company has come back saying it will fit and if it doesn't, they pick it back up free-of-charge. So I'm going to chance it and order the part. If this doesn't work, I'll opt for cutting the silencer out as BMW have told me that the silencer is part of the CAT and can't be sold separately...the car has recently gone through the MOT test successfully so I know the CAT is fine. Besides which, to replace this runs to thousands!!!
