I had occasion to be driving across the panhandle about 2 years ago with a fellow forum member, @miller1098. He had flown over from Wales to the Philly airport where, after stuffing him with 2 cheesesteaks from Gino's, we flew out to San Diego to pick up a 2000 Z3 ///M I had bought. We had a great time driving back to Jersey making quite a few scheduled stops on the way and one stop in Shamrock that we didn't plan. He happened to be driving at the time and the local smokies didn't appreciate that we were doing 107 in a 75. They introduced him (Hugh) to a Texas courtroom while I had to drive into OK to make the first legal U-turn and come back and round him up. I caught up with him in the middle of town where he was standing on the sidewalk brandishing his paid receipt like the trophy it was likely to become. ..We had just passed a welcoming sign coming into Texas that said: "You have a friend in Texas". Actually, in truth, they were all very nice and reasonable about the whole thing. I was just happy there was no jail time involved. We joke about it from time to time on the forum. I even started calling Hugh: " 'ol 75 in a 107". I can't say anything about any other state as New Jersey is as bad as they come when it comes to speed traps and radar. On one of my trips to the UK, Hugh drove me around Wales and I couldn't stop nervously looking around for the cops everywhere we drove, especially with @miller1098 and @TaffZee doing the driving. I must admit, the Brits are most capable drivers as their roads don't have some of the safety features we are used to such as shoulders, since their roads are hundreds of years older than ours. Many have high hedges on either side and nowhere to go except the lane you're in, so they HAVE to be good careful drivers...................FrankieCedar Park, a little over 400 miles away...
