The missing part of the jigsaw for my next big project is working out how I can get some movement in the heater housing to open up a temporary larger gap behind.

Fixed in position there’s too tight a gap just above the transmission tunnel at the bulkhead for me to work in.

So I want to loosen the fixings and pull it forward temporarily rather than remove it. I don’t really want to drain the coolant and go to the lengths of removing it completely.

Has anyone done this before or perhaps has removed the unit completely and can advise?

All will be revealed in a soon to be posted thread :)

Found somewhere to hide the safe, then?

Wouldn't have thought there would be much slack on the hoses where they pass through the bulkhead. Only had a brief look down there some time back (just checking hoses, 16 year old car and all that) but there ain't a lot of room. Guess you'd already noticed that.

There isn’t a lot of room at all. Hence why I want to pull it forward a bit. But I suspect to get any movement it needs dismantling from the engine bay and as you say there will be little slack on the hoses even then.
