I have decided to buy a heated windscreen for my z3 roadster and spoke this morning to Martin at UroGlas (http://www.uroglas.com/heated.html), he did some digging while on the phone:
- Pilkington's classic & oddballs factory is the only option - if they only make the z3 windscreen in the mainstream factory you can't do it, you would need to have your own jig built... as only in the classics factory will they add the heated layer in...
- Fortunately they do have it listed, and have built a heated version in the past for someone
- They will therefore supply a single unit if desired - or if orders above a certain number the price will probably come down...
- as far as I know there is only one windscreen shape for all cars pre-facelift / post, I talked to them about roadsters, not sure about coupes
Price for 1 unit is £488 + VAT (£585.60) - not delivered, but could be collected from Bromsgrove, Worcs.
Price per unit for bigger orders - tbc. but indicative price suggests that 5 ordered might bring the price down to c. £390 + VAT (£468)
Windscreen comes simply as the necessary windscreen, but with two wires sticking out - up to the car owner to then find someone to fit / wire it up to whatever they desire... so there will no doubt be additional costs for installation / wiring / etc.
UroGlas - supplied the windscreens for the series 2 club, though I didn't order at that time I believe the process and dealing with them was very smooth
Delivery by Pilkington is at the end of each month and it takes a minimum of 4 weeks order time - so delivery will always be the end of the month after the one during which you order - i.e. order now and it will be end of August - order at the end of July, still the end of August, order at the beginning of August - end of September...
anyway, will also post this on the other forum
if there are sufficient indications of serious interest - think price below £500 inc. VAT not fitted / delivered then I will ask them to firm up the price.
they are happy for us to 'loosely' organise it, but then leave individuals to contact them directly to order and sort out delivery as appropriate...
thoughts?
