Morning. The Z3 I purchased appears to have heated seats. The switches are there on the centre console and when press they stay illuminated all the time but no heat appears in either seat. How do I know if the seats that are in have heating elements? Just wonder if they may have been swapped out at some point?

Thanks

You can only really tell from underneath the seat by tracing the connections. What year is the car ? Some have a seperate loader relay in the fuse box but i would have thought with out it you would get no lights on the switches.

I'd put your chassis number into BMW VIN. If you haven't come across that it will tell you what options the car was built with.

OK, checked BMW VIN and it was manufactured with heated seats. Thing is, the upholstery shows as LEDER OREGON/SCHWARZ, which as far as I can work out is a black interior? The seats in it are red with matching door cards? So I presume they have been swapped at some point. That's why I suppose I was asking if you can check behind the seats for connections, everything seems to be plugged in OK.

LEDER OREGON/SCHWARZ is red and black I think as if you google it everything described as Oregon is either reddish brown or salmon colour :)

ps mine is Leder Cameleon/Schwarz and I think Cameleon must be just the texture as mine is all black seats :)

Quite common that the elements break, soon as you lean on the seat with a knee it breaks the elements. If that happens the lower half of the seat back should still get warm just not where your ass sits. Does that happen?

Yes it looks like your seats have been changed. The Oregon/Schwarz seats are black (Schwartz) with leather that has raised dimples that simulate ostrich hide (Oregon). Check your interior code from the Vin number decode against this link. Likely to be Q2SW. Also look for code "481 Sports Seats" in the Vin decode. If its not there, then you have standard seats.

The wiring connectors under the seat will need to be checked. Face-lift and preface-lift seats have different connectors. So if face-lift seats have been connected, you may have some bogged wiring under the seats.

The new seats may not be fitted with heating.
