Just a simple one - is there somewhere to get replacement heat shields for the z3?
Thinking of going new as I service the underside of the car.

If you really have too and I have occasionally made custom, thin aluminium sheet and a bit of panelbeating, intricate shapes can be achieved if the ali is annealed first.. Aluminium is interseting stuff as you have really no clue as to how hot it is or when it is going to melt without infrared temp gun, but there is a simple work around if you have access to an oxy acatelene set.Just a simple one - is there somewhere to get replacement heat shields for the z3?

Many thanks - I'm a silver smith by trade and was always taught that to anneal Ali, you rubbed some hard soap onto the metal, and heated it with a torch and then the soap turned black, it was done.If you really have too and I have occasionally made custom, thin aluminium sheet and a bit of panelbeating, intricate shapes can be achieved if the ali is annealed first.. 1, with a carbonising flame, ie sooty not enough oxy soot up the sheet.
2, adjust to normal flame and apply just enough heat to burn off the soot.
Job done, maleable ali, but work it soon after treatment, work quickly and consicely it will work harden quite quickly. Also remember that ali is a very good at soaking up and transmitting heat, so just because you heated it over there, do not assume it is safe to touch over here..
