I am a resident of Spain and am in the process of importing my zed but have to have the lights conforming to Spanish requirements (ie left hand drive). I'd rather not change the lights and wonder if it is possible to adjust them for driving on the right.

:welcome:to the forum from West Cumbria. You will need Euro spec headlights so will need to buy new/second hand ones to conform.

Changing the lights is so easy

Just buy some left hand drive lights and swap them.

When cars from the UK go to the continent you can fit masks to the lights to convert to a flat beam. Is it not possible to use these or will they only be allowed as a temporary measure? Cars fitted with these type of masks will pass the English M.O.T. (with advisory) so should also pass elsewhere within the EU.

When importing a car Tony you need to comply, we all had to do this coming back from Germany to the UK and vice versa.

So that's if it's a permanent thing then Andy?

Yes mate, in excess of 3 months. One of the Brit lads brings his MX5 out here but has to take it back before 3 months less he needs to register it and comply.

When the father in law bought his zed here to take back to France, he bought some new after market ones from eBay, which were specifically for left hand drive cars.
Cost about £300, worth it to save any hassle getting it through the French m.o.t.

Many thanks for all your thoughts. There is a specific MOT (in Spain its called ITV) for the importation of any vehicle and the headlights are a factor in this. I was hoping the lights would be adjustable but apparently not so its a bite the bullet job and fit new ones.

It looks that way Gordon but at least you will have your Z with you where the weather is good. I wish I could have one over in Florida. Enjoy your driving.

Hi Hardtop,
Many thanks for your kind offer but I'm not on "Facebook". I have discovered a garage relatively local who say they can supply a set of Eurospec lights for the Zed at around 300 Euros. Could be the answer.

Do you have to get the headlights done before you import the car or can you do it within a certain time after?

Yes you have to have the lights conforming before the car can be imported. Part of the importation process is a Spanish ITV and that unlike the normal ITV is specific to the importing regulations so the lights have to be conforming at that stage. I do have the car in Spain but its off the road until the above process is complete.
Best regards, Gordon.

Z3 headlights are not convertible so you need to buy the correct ones.. Really easy to change.
Here in France an English mot is applicable to register your car for its log book (Cart Gris) once it expires
You have to get a French mot (CT)

Have a look on the Spanish, French and German eBay sites. Should be the cheapest way of getting some second hand LHD lights.
