Should be set at "0" before headlight aim is tested on the M.O.T. Test. That is the maximum highest setting and can only be lowered from there. Also, if the tester has to move the control to "0", he should advise the driver/owner that he has done so!

Hi, my adjusters doesn't work. I don't know if they're stuck on low or high. The fuses are okay but I suspect the motors. Can't find a how to on remove the actuators, do the headlights need to be removed to unhook the ball? Thanls, Chris

Someone else may be able to give more exact z3 related but in my experience with other models the problem is not so much getting it off and removed it's the trying to get the ball inn the end of the new motor back in the light.
You end up putting your fingers through the bulb fitting hole ( clean gloves required as not to mark it ) and trying to hold the whole lot still while try push motor back on to it .
Zed may be easier never had one off

Very useful info that mate. I replaced my off side adjuster motor recently but couldn't get the ball into the socket, so I'll try your tip and see if I can get it back in .

Always use some sort of lubricant (silicon is best) to locate the ball pin of the adjuster into the lug on the reflector.

I put some of that on Tony but still no joy.
The headlight beams are both level though in setting number two.

That may be so Steve but your headlight internals are insecure and will vibrate ( even though you may not see it )
Ever driven towards a car a night and 1 of the headlamp looks like it moves ( vibrates ) afraid that's now you mate .

@Stevo7682 again I didn't think of that either.
Just a little update on refitting the headlight adjusters.
To locate the ball on the adjuster onto the socket in the rear of the headlight, it's actually a slotted hole so you can't simply just push it in, as you can on aftermarket ones.
You have to slide the socket in from the left, on the offside lamp at least.
Your tip of removing a bulb, high beam in my case to hold the reflector assembly whilst you locate the adjuster is spot on, thanks .

Thanks for that especially the tip about removing the bulb and confirmation that it does slide in sideways. I need to be able to remove a motor, check it and if necessary refit it whilst I get a new one.

I've just made an in-situ test set up for these motors (mine were OK). You will need some electronics knowledge but it is vey simple to make up only requiring a couple of components and a 9 volt battery.
I'll post a how-to in a couple of days
