If I leave the car either locked or unlocked after about 20 minutes the hazards start to flash and the only way to turn them off is to disconnect the battery.
I suspect the alarm may be at fault maybe due to a drain but am only guessing but it happens when the car is left unlocked.

I have checked
both door switches
bonnet switch
loom of doom
small box (can't remember what it is called) that sits in the left hand side at the rear of the boot, it's dry
Interior light is off

Stumped as electrics are not my forte.

What model and year of Z3 do you have. It makes a difference with the wiring diagrams.

It is a 2000.

The bonnet switch is deactivated by screwing it closed.

I can understand the alarm coming on if t was turned on and detected a voltage drop but it happens with th car unlocked after sitting for 20 minutes unlocked. The only way to stop its is to disconnect the battery. Locking and unlocking it makers no difference and the hazards keep flashing.

Go to the "Resources" section of this forum and download the 2000 wiring diagrams for Great Britain. It's the only one with your alarm wiring diagram.

In there, you'll discover that there is a crash detector relay between the ZKE4 (where your alarm is controlled) and the hazard light system. Unplug the relay and see if the problem is cured. It may be a faulty relay. Located in the drivers footwell.

Thanks, that sounds promising. I have googled the crash sensor and found a picture of what it looks like but does anyone know it's exact location?

The wiring diagrams have part location pictures in the back.
