Ooh, decision time. From my perspective it would depend on what you are looking for...

If you are after a weekend/occasional car then I would get an ///M :ymdevil:

If it's going to be more of a daily driver you can use all year round then a big engined Z4 would be more suitable ;)

Not the worst decision in the world to have to make though!

If your thinking about a porker I've Seen some 3.2 S's from 5.5k! :-o

Having driven one I'd still go for an M roadster tho..

The thing is, is the boxster a better drive where as i love my Z3 i want a more modern car to tour around Europe ,ok Z4 you say but i just can't seem to get to like the styling this has led me to a poor mans porsche I've looked at a 2004 986 3.2s manual with 41k on the clock for £9500 ! but there is a down side £460 tax and group 20 insurance I've also looked at a E46 M3 cab for £8995 there are some great cars about and the car market is very slow some real bargains out there !!!
ps the Z3 will be staying in the family

Sounds like an itch you have to scratch Si. Life is short, and worst case you can flog it in a couple of months when you are bored with it!

Re: Have to sell this for a Z3m

My brother in law owned a supercar club and I was lucky enough to drive a few of them including Aston v8, ferrari 430, 612 scagletti, db9, gallardo etc. I've never driven a Z3m but did have go of a boxster s and I have to say I loved it, it beat all the others. Was absolutely gutted when I had to hand back the keys unlike all the others which were a nice experience but not something I'd want if that makes sense, and has been mentioned previously they are scarily cheap at the moment. :)

Re: Have to sell this for a Z3m

For handling the boxter S is a great machine.. it`ll be hard to beat at the prices they are going for at the min...

the things i personally didnt like about it was its styling.. interior is boring.. and it just isnt fast enougth..
It felt a heavy stiff solid drive.. yes very good on the bends but not when you put your foot down..

you really have to drive some different cars and decide for yourself..

i do personally think if you want comfort and realiability then try a 330ci or Z4 3.0

I would also point out in a boxter you probably have less lugage space than a Z3 if your thinking of touring..

Re: Have to sell this for a Z3m

Boxster is only 460 quid tax post-2006... £265 before then.

Having driven both quite extensively, the Porsche is the more composed and ultimately better drive but the Z is more fun. As for practicality, the Boxster has much more storage than the Z... front and rear boots both take quite a bit of luggage. The 3.2 is also quicker than the Z (appart from the M).

As far as "poor mans Porsche", yes, they're cheaper than a 911 but they also handle better too and a soft top 911 is really just for posers - much better to have a soft top that's designed to be a soft top IMHO.
