Looks like a motor winding to me, perhaps for the seat motor?

Looks like the inside of the door mirror to me.

Recognised it as solenoid wire, but is it anything to do with the alternator?

So not a door mat so your passengers can wipe their feet before getting in the car... I'm somewhat disappointed

Still, I'm always up for shiny stuff so good on you!

Looks great. I noticed you cut the dash bulbs out. Why? @GazHyde somewhere on this site [I think] someone modified the lights with a small drill bit so non-oem cheaper bulbs can be fitted. Do you know where that is as I cannot find it! I have 2 I need to replace but don't want to pay the dealers a fortune.

Which bulbs you on about @Cooper? If its the heater control bulbs, then it was @Susan who figured the bulb would separate from the holder.

They are genuine VDO gauges!

The bulb fitting twists off of the back of each gauge, and I will be refitting them. They were just part of a very old wiring harness that I did not want to risk using, so I'm making myself a new one from all the bits pictured above (instruction courtesy of @Southernboy)

Found it, of course it is another great @Southernboy idea. Someone else used LEDs using the same concept so I sent him a PM asking for the part numbers - I don't know anything about electrical stuff so am very cautious. Let me know Barry if you don't want this picture you posted here and I will remove.

Barry is referring to rremoving bulbs from a Z3M, and the picture from Susan looks nothing like the bacl of Z3M gauges.

...However, my bulbs just pull out as described in that picture, but the mounts and gauges are from a completely different car.
