These had been collecting dust in the garage for about 4 weeks, so as the weather
was decent today I summoned up the courage to have a go at fitting them.
They looked absolutely fine but @t-tony showed me how much the front wheels flexed and apparently It's down to worn control arm bushes,at the rear of the arm.
I was surprised how bad they were when I was able to easily separate the mounting from the rubber inner.
I watched some clips on line on how to change them and some people opted to burn the rubber out with a blow lamp, some people used lump hammers and chisels. I didn't need to do either .
Once the bracket is off you're left with the rubber inner stuck on the control arm. I used a multi tool to cut through it with ease,it has a metal sleeve on it also but once a cut is made it seperates and slides off.
Then the metal collar has be removed from the inside of the bracket,I used a hacksaw to cut a slot across it and then used a hammer and chisel to ease it out.
A quick run round with some abrasive strip before popping in the new bush.
Then on to the car
The instructions supplied with the kit are very good and clear, even to a pleb like me .
A good coating of the supplied silicon grease on the black bit and inside the purple bit to aid the fitting and prevent any squeaky noises when driving.....
and Bob's your uncle .
Thought I'd struggle to do this on my own and Tony did very kindly offer his services but luckily mission complete.
Went out for a little test drive for an hour and I'm so pleased I replaced them old bushes as the car didn't corner too well before. Didn't realise how bad it was until @Nodzed let me have a drive in his fab //M,my zed felt awful in comparison .
BUT NOW it feels bloody ace in the corners as the front is instantly grippy and doesn't drift wide, making the rear more responsive.
I know it's an old cliche but it feels like it's transformed the car,so a job well worth doing .
Steve.
