Thought I would share my experiences of glass coatings, these are just my personal experiences and are probably biased by the type of driving I do and the type of roads I'm most often on.

RainX
Fairly chap and easy to apply and works well but for a very limited time.

With both of these you really need to make sure that the screen is super clean before applying otherwise you seal the dirt in as well. I polished mine using a DA machine with Menzerna 3500 optical polish, microfibre pad, and then cleaned it twice more with GTechniq glass cleaner, then cleaned it with 25%IPA solution in deionised water and then blew it off with an airline.

GTechniq G1/G2
This is a nano tech coating and is a bit of a faf to apply. overall if you do the job properly takes about 1/2 -> 3/4hr, lots of prep work to get a good finish. You need 3 coats 5mins apart then leave it for 20mins before using the G2 to remove the residue and polish it off. But well worth it.
When driving above about 40-45 and depending on the type of rain it just flies off the screen, a few months ago driving from Maidstone to Heathrow in the MX5 it was raining all the way and I didn't have to use the wipers until I got to the heathrow turnoff.
I've noticed that ice seems to scrape off a lot easier and bird s*** washes off a lot easier.
Its effective for about a year, and then reapplication is a lot quicker 2nd time round.

DoDo Juice Supernatural Glass Coating
This uses covalent nanotech, not sure what the difference is to G1. Similar prep process, to above. However only requires 1 application but you have to keep working a small area at a time until it hazes, the recommendation about using a waffle cloth is worthwhile as it removes the residue very cleanly. This then needs to cure for 2-3 hours. With this and G1 I leave it garaged overnight to make sure no moisture gets on it.

This shows how well it works

And this one that seems to show that DoDo Juice last longer, however I found that G1 actually worked better for longer on the road in th rain despite what this video show.

I feel the result is well worth while.

Conclusion
They both do a great job rain beads and runs off nicely make use of wipers much less.
Both of them give you a super clear windscreen, this is due to the prep work but it stays like this for an amazing long time.
I've used both over the last couple of years and on my recently acquired Z4 I've gone for the G1.
I found the G1 beads and runs off at lower speeds than DoDo Juice for longer in the real world.
G1 is nearly twice the cost of DoDo Juice, but I feel that its worth it,

The two photos showing the screen of my Z a month after applying the G1, I'm playing the hose across the tope of the screen and you can see how the water is clearing away with bits of screen still dry despite the quantity of water going on.

Hope thats of some help to people who are looking at these coatings.

The only problem I found with any of these coatings was oily road scum stuck as well as ever and only using the wipers & wash would clear it.

In my case, as little as 200 miles of a damp motorway commute would ruin it, so I just went back to decent washer fluid & wipers.

Although as the Zed is no longer a daily driver, maybe I should give it another shot?

If wipers and wash work properly, can't really see the point. Am I missing something?

Yep. It's an opportunity to spend money.
If (and it's pretty unlikely) I was to buy a shiny new car I might consider some kind of ceramic coating to keep it shiny, but just for a windscreen? Motorcycle crash helmet visor, maybe, but that's one of the reasons I've got a car or two. We get our fair share of rain round here.

As I said in the OP I was hoping it would be of help to those that may be looking at these options, if your not interested then don't bother reading it.

Very informative. Only used RainX so far. Heard good things about Angelwax H2Go. Might give that a go next.

I love it when the screen is crystal clear, had rainX in the garage for years, might have to give it a go. Thanks for posting

I use this and it works very well.

It doesn't cost the earth either. Saves wiper blades.

Tony.

I tried this in a Honda prelude with a very raked screen. The way the beads raced up in front of you was like something out of Star Wars, took some getting used to.

I used Rainex back then but found it smeared quickly and didn’t bother again. The tech has moved on, must look into it..

Interesting thread
Used RainX and it works fine until you turn the wipers on then it just seemed to act like the wiper blades were knackered, not a fan and feel these products are verging on snake oil and no replacement for good quality wipers and screen wash.

Each to their own though :thumbsup:
